Internationally renowned pianist Fiachra Garvey returns to Féile na Bealtaine with an energetic and compelling programme of masterworks for solo piano by Chopin, Debussy and Rachmaninoff. Fiachra commented “I have many fond memories of summer holidays spent in Dingle and the surrounding areas, especially on the farm where my father Uinsionn grew up in Cilmhicadomhnaigh in Ventry. It is such a joy to return to one of my most favourite places”
Fiachra was awarded 1st prize at the 2012 Jaques Samuel Competition, London and made his Fazioli Auditorium (Italy) and Wigmore Hall debuts as a result. Other prizes include AXA Dublin International Piano Competition, EU Piano Competition Prague, and 3rd Soirees-Concours Internationales de Piano a Collioure, France. The National Concert Hall Dublin awarded Fiachra the “Rising Star” prize in 2011.
Fiachra’s debut CD “For the Piano”, under the Lyric FM label, was released in 2012: “brings a deep and infectious enthusiasm, combined with insight and technical comfort.” (Sunday times). His second CD, a live performance from Wigmore Hall, was released in 2014.
Fiachra is the Founder and Artistic Director of the West Wicklow Festival (www.westwicklowfestival.com).
