Swimming The Horses singer songwriter and guitarist Gerry O’Beirne performs the songs that he has been writing in West Kerry in recent years on his various stringed instruments, many of them about life on the peninsula.
The concert will be a performance of the album and joining in will be singers Pauline Scanlon, Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh and Teresa Horgan.
Gerry O’Beirne is a master of the six and twelve string and many other stringed instruments. His lyrical and passionate songs such as the Holy Ground and Western Highway have been recorded by Mary Black, Maura O’Connell, Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh among many others. He has released three albums of his own music and has toured the globe as a solo artist and with The Sharon Shannon Band, Patrick Street, Midnight Well, Andy M. Stewart, Kevin Burke, Andy Irvine, and the Waterboys and most recently with Arthur Russell’s Instrumentals. He has performed at the White House and on Garrison Keillor’s Prairie Home Companion, opened for the Grateful Dead, and played electric guitar with Marianne Faithfull. He lives in West Kerry where he plays music all the time and is releasing his new and fourth album Swimming The Horses in Féile na Bealtaine in Dingle in May.
