Lullaby for Adults is a continuation of the story of the ceallunaigh, the un-baptised infant burial grounds found scattered throughout County Kerry and Ireland as a whole but this time focuses not upon the babies but on the many adults buried within these sites. In many people’s minds the ceallunaigh is associated purely with the burial of babies, however, as Emer Dennehy states in The History of the ceallunaigh in Co. Kerry, ‘they were also used for a wide category of adult burials such as suicides, murder victims, people of unknown religion and for the bodies of shipwrecked sailors.’
Lullaby for Adults pays tribute to all those nameless adults who were buried within the ceallunaigh.
Lullaby for Adults follows on from last year’s well received Voices from the Cillín and brings together once more the creative skills of well known local poet Bríd Ní Mhóráin whose poetry reading will be accompanied by the music of Máire Breatnach, and Scottish based visual artists Sheena Graham-George and Angelica Kroeger.
