Born in Nigeria, Melatu Uche Okorie came to Ireland in 2006. It was during her eight and a half years living in the direct provision system that she began to write. She has an M.Phil. in Creative Writing from Trinity College and her writing has been published in several anthologies. In 2008, she won the Metro Éireann writing award for her story ‘Gathering Thoughts’. Melatu has a strong interest in the rights of asylum seekers and migrant education in Ireland and is working on a PhD in Trinity College. Dr Liam Thornton is an assistant professor in law in UCD School of Law. Liam has published extensively in academic journals and with academic presses on issues relating to human rights, asylum and refugee law, socio-economic rights and the rights of the child.
