Birth Notes – Ciúin Tracey

A photographic series that aims to explore the chasm that exists between the unsympathetic medical account of birth and the actual magnitude of the lived experience. The images examine this delicate time in the motherhood journey, the time in a woman’s life when everything changes utterly and she becomes an instrument of delivery. Working with the understanding that birth is so much more than a physical act, the series navigates the spiritual aspect of birthing a child through the observation of its reflection in the world that surrounds us on a daily basis.
