CUIMHNE CHATH FIONNTRÁ / Rememberance of The BATTLE OF VENTRY
De bharr gean don seanscéal Cath Fionn Trá, tháinig scata againn le chéile leis na heagráin éagsúla a thabhairt chun cuimhne agus le suim sa scéal a mhúscailt. Out of a love of the epic story Cath Fionn Trá our group came together to revive an interest in this heroic tale. We wanted to celebrate the legendary heroic characters through different media.

Fadó, fadó, dhein Dáire Donn, Rí an Domhain, ionnradh ar Éirinn. Tháinig sé i dtír i gCuan Fionntrá. Cuireadh fios ar na Fianna, agus thosnaigh cath cruaidh lae agus bliana. Maraíodh na céadta. Mhairbh Fionn féin Dáire Donn i gcomhrac aonair, agus comharba Dháire, an bhanlaoch Ógarmach chomh maith. Ansin, agus na laochra go léir ar lár, dhein Fiannachta Fiaclach iarracht coróin an domhain a bhreith ar ais chun na loinge ríoga, ach lean Cael mac Criomthainn sa tsnámh é, agus báitheadh an bheirt acu. Thit an choróin ríoga go tóin poill, agus b’shin deireadh le Cath Fionntrá.
Synopsis
Dáire Donn, “King of the World” invades Ireland with a huge army. Finn and the Fianna are sent for and arrive soon after at Ventry.
An epic battle ensues with great loss of life. Eventually Finn himself confronts Dáire Donn & slays him in single combat. The crown is passed to Ógarmach, a female warrior, who is also slain by Finn. An invader takes the crown and swims to a ship but Cael who pretends to be a friend swims after him and drags him under. Both are drowned and the crown is lost in the sea. Thus ends the Battle of Ventry, which lasted a year and a day.
