A bilingual dráma performed by poet and actor Áine Moynihan.
A weaving of stories, music and poems, this new show delves into memories evoked by significant items of clothing and fabric from Áine’s life.
Tá scéalta, ceol agus dánta fite fuaite lena chéile sa léiriú nua seo curtha i láthair ag Áine Moynihan, Feargal Mac Amhlaoibh agus Louise Nic an tSionnaigh. Tá sé bunaithe ar na cuimhní chinn atá spreagtha ag rudaí faoi leith ó shaol Áine.
A woman’s life told in the evocative colours and fabric of well-worn and beloved items of clothing- a woolen shawl, a Communion veil, a wedding dress, a Foxford rug for a picnic on the beach, a new-born baby’s bootees….
Tracing key moments of schooling, courtship, marriage and giving birth, this tale unfolds in prose and poetry in Irish and in English. The moments are underscored by musical fragments, half-heard snatches of tunes and songs of a by-gone era with piano, and airs played on the fiddle from the islands of Cape Clear and Inisheer, and from West Kerry.
The show makes for surprising moments of emotion, sorrow, joy and laughter, as it celebrates women’s lives through the social changes of the 20 th century and beyond.
ÁINE MOYNIHAN is a poet and performer working in both languages based in Dún Chaoin in the Kerry Gaeltacht.
