Laura’s newest collection of paintings explore the importance of pausing, connecting and the conflicting ability of taking a sos beag. Sos beag meaning a little break in Irish, studies the places where the artist has often retreated in order to hide away from the busy days that can often materialise agus tú i do chónaí, ag obair nó ag tabhairt cuairt ar an nDaingean.
This collection explores the light, colour, peace and joyous atmosphere found in little pockets and corners throughout Dingle town and further afield. Each piece of work recreates a space that provides vital connection, a break or an oasis, a surfacing moment, welcomes deep breaths and curates reflective practice which oftentimes can be part of Dingle’s nature, yet sometimes rare to find, depending on the season. A ‘sos beag’ is part and parcel of this magnificent peninsula, and the magic it holds quietly inspires and reminds us to take them.
These new works were created with the hope of reminding us of the essence of stopping, taking in our surroundings and more importantly the people we share them with, which oftentimes can be ourselves.
