Source is an immersive sound installation, inspired by the research of geologist Dr. Jess Franklin which investigates the provenance of ancient sandstones. Her work unravels the history of their individual sand grains, from weathering through to transport, deposition, and burial.
Forbraíodh an suiteáil seo i gcomhar leis an ealaíontóir fuaime Kevin Sanderson. This installation simulates the enormity of geological time, serving as a sonic narrative that traces the long journey of sand grains and the complex processes which form our natural landscapes.
Tar éis dóibh dul isteach i seomra dorcha, attendees are immersed in an evocative soundscape and presented with an illuminated sample of sandstone resting on a plinth, accompanied by a description of the rock. This generative soundscape transitions across four key stages of the sandstone’s lifecycle — generation, weathering, transport, and burial, using field recordings and digital manipulation.
