BIG SPAILPÍN ENERGY INCOMING’
Oíche mhór romhainn agus an bheirt réice is mó sa domhan tiar ag teacht go Daingean Uí Chúis. Aduaidh ó North Kiarraighe é an file Súil Amháin (go bhfuil dhá shúil aige a thug na déithe dho) agus n’fheadar éinne cé acu Connachtach nó Cairibeach é an ceoltóir craiceáilte UshMush. Is treise iad le chéile ná gálaí an Atlantaigh Fhiáin. Má thá dúil agat i dtunes le dordanna móra groíthe, buail isteach, agus ná déan dearúd ar an scáth fearthainne mar go mbeidh sprioslaí agus seilí á gcaitheamh go tiubh.
‘Táimse im’ chodladh is ní theastaíonn uaim bheith woke…’
Súil Amháin is a rapper and poet from Lios Tuathail who loves shtaelin’ old proverbs and spittin’ them on a landscape of 808s produced by Bantum. On stage he’s joined by the (Inis Oirr via.) Ennis musicman Ushmush who fuses traditional Irish styles with West African and Caribbean music, South American club music styles and radio-pop. This will be the first gig back west since the release of Súil Amháin’s first album ‘athPhORT’ winner of NÓS Irish language album of the year award in 2024. Éiríg.
Cian Ó Cíobháin:
Súil Amháin – Lá Breá
Straight outta west Kerry, featuring poet and rapper Súil Amháin effervescent wordplay, delivered with panache, with beats and sounds from Bantum. This song evokes echoes from the past (references to old songs and old sayings) with the shock of the new (Bitcoin), whilst vividly recreating the vibe of a languid summer’s day on the Dingle peninsula. And in the fashion of certain old west Kerry sean-nós songs, there are plenty of local place-names mentioned:
“Níl póg níos deise ná do Bhéal Bán
Is tá a thuilleadh díot uaim ag Tráigh an Fhíona
Id fhochair, is Cloichear, a bhímse, agus féach
Mar a rithim le dúil síos do Choim Uí Neol”.’
